Thelma the Unicorn snapped up by Netflix

Exciting news is in for fans of Australia children’s author Aaron Blabey. Netflix has bought the rights for Thelma the Unicorn and will shortly start work on a film adaptation, which will take the form of an animated musical.

Thelma the Unicornis a sparkly story about a pony who wishes to become a unicorn and what happens when her wish comes true. It is a joyful story about learning to love who you are… even if you don’t have sparkles.

The book has sold over 1.6 million copies to date and has been distributed in 14 countries around the world. The success of Blabey’s novels has landed him on theNew York Timesbestselling list for 32 weeks.

Aaron Blabey has been signed on as co-executive producer.

The adaptation will be directed by Jared Hess (Masterminds, The Last Man on Earth). It will be adapted for the screen by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), while Aaron Blabey and Patrick Hughes of Foundation Media Partners will executive produce.
